Depart in towards Blanchtown

 22nd July 2025

This morning we depart at just after 9 am, heading downstream towards Blanchtown. The plan is to pull over at about halfway to Blanchtown and settle in there for the afternoon and dinner.

Before departing I had a morning walk around the Foxtale facility. Not only do they hire houseboats, but they build them and there we are few under construction in the yard

They a have a substantial slipway to launch the completed vessels and service their fleet.

We are fortunate to have a tailwind, so make good speed doing around 6 knots. The houseboat has enough power to motor along comfortably and enjoy the scenery, which is quite spectacular.

We are surprised by the amount of development along the river here and the quality of the homes being built.

The river cliffs are impressive and are in stark contrast to the flats on the opposite side of the river.

After several hours cruising down the river, we begin to think about where we may stay for the night and are actively looking for potential sites to put our bow into shore and secure the boat for an overnight stay. It proved a bit more of a challenge than we expected but eventually we found a suitable spot.

Once tied up to a few trees , we were ready to venture ashore to check out the surroundings. Behind the stands of river gums, was flat sandy soil, with sparse vegetation and a few trails through it that looked like bush bike trails, and a little further away from our mooring spot was a house.

Whilst we were relaxing on board, the Murray Princess motored past us. It was the same large cruise vessel that we had seen in Morgan

As the sun goes down the river views improve with the afternoon light.

Dinner on board was chicken cacciatore, cooked by one of our couples on board. It was very nice. We have agreed that each couple will cook a dinner meal on the cruise and we are off to a good start. Tomorrow is our turn and OssoBucco is on the menu.

Tomorrow we head to Blanchtown.
