Visit Mildura and Relax in Red Cliffs
19th July 2025
This morning was devoted to getting some laundry done whilst we have a stretch of great weather before driving in to Mildura late morning to have a look around and do some shopping.
A major tourist attraction seems to be Lock 11 on the Murray River, and the nearby weir, so that is our destination.
Surrounding Lock 11 is a large park area with picnic tables, BBQ's etc
Not much happening at the lock whilst we are there
Although we did see a pelican land in the lock
There are great views of the river from this park and a surprising number of pelicans in the area.
The Mildura Weir
It was time for lunch and we had discovered there was a Malaysian Restaurant only 5 minutes away so we decided we would try it out. Kampung restaurant was quite busy, and we were the only non asians there. Today the were serving Nasi Kandar which is basically a buffet where you select a combination of meat rice and vegetable dishes on your plate.
The serves were huge and we decided to share one plate each between each couple. The food was good, serves generous and price very reasonable.
We hada bit of supermarket shopping to do, and the Churchills needed to go to Anaconda, so we went our separate ways and plan to catch up back at the caravan park.
It is quite a nice afternoon and Brian suggested a game of golf at Red Cliffs Golf Club. it is around 2.30 pm and we have time to fit in 9 holes, so he and I headed off for a game of golf. The clubhouse was very busy when we arrived as it is Saturday, their main competition day. Fortunately the Comp was over and we had no trouble getting a game. It is a typical country golf course with golf bookings made and paid for at the bar.
Red Cliffs Golf Clubhouse
By 3.15pm we were on the first tee and on our way. The course is in surprisingly good condition.
Having just teed of on the 1st we are on our way
The course was better than expected, dead flat, no bunkers, plenty of trees, one water hazard, but reasonably generous fairways. The greens were also well looked after for a country course. We enjoyed our game, had a beer back in the clubhouse and headed back to the park.
Dinner tonight is at the Reddy Pub, one of 2 dinner options in town. The other one being the Red Cliffs Club. We had a typical pub meal and were back home early as we are heading to Waikerie tomorrow to provision up for the houseboat trip. As you are not allowed to bring fresh fruit and some veg into SA because of fruit fly risk, we will have to stock up in Waikerie.
